DALE 1992

Throughout the world,
from the breakaway
republics of the U.S.S.R.,
to the graduating seniors
of Hopedale High School,
there are new starts being
made. We are all
experiencing new
freedoms, and indeed, a
new life. As members of
the class of 1992, we can
look back on all of our
accomplishments with a
sense of pride. But those
accomplishments are just
a taste of what is to
come. They are just our
beginning. That is why, we
the Class of 1992, have
chosen "We've only just
begun . . ."as the theme
of the Dale 1992.

Our motto demonstrates
our progress from the
kindergarten scribble,
representing our
beginning, to the
calligraphy, representing
the refinement we hope
the future holds. We have
a bright future ahead of
us, and we thank our
families, teachers and
friends for the solid
foundation they have
provided us to reach and
enjoy that future.

Dedication

Although not having a permanent position during our years at
Hopedale High School, Ms. Rose has been a valuable asset to our
educational experience. In her, we see the values of hard work,
dedication, and most of all, loyalty.

Ms. Rose began teaching math at Hopedale High School in 1955.
She continued teaching until her retirement in 1974, the year the Class
of 1992 was born! However, her teaching career was far from over.
Over the past eighteen years, Ms. Rose has offered her valuable
services as a substitute teacher, often working free of charge
throughout the hard times Hopedale High School faced last year.

Even today, at the age of eighty - one, Ms. Rose continues to be an
inspiration to the entire student body and the faculty. Therefore, we the
Class of 1992, dedicate the Dale '92 to Ms. Florence Rose.

New Faces

The 1991-1992 school year has brought five
new faces to the classrooms of Hopedale
High. Due to funding from the Proposition 2Vi
override, the Home Economics and Industrial
Arts program were included in the new
budget, as well as a new band director and a
new math and foreign language teacher.

After one year without Home Economics and
Industrial Arts, the school was delighted to be
able to reinstitute these courses. Both Mrs.
Nueding and Mr. Gautreau are working to
make our new Home Economics and Industrial
Arts programs the best they can be.

Hopedale High has had a hard time finding a
permanent band director, but this year we
have been lucky to find Mr. Bettencourt, who
is extremely enthusiastic and dedicated to our
music department. His new and innovative
ideas have already resulted in enjoyable band
recitals and concerts.

The newest addition to our math department
is Ms. Anderson. We are sure that Ms.
Anderson will maintain the level of excellence
that our math department is known for.

And finally, the addition of Mrs. Paul to the
staff has resulted in the reinstitution of Latin I
and Latin II into our cirriculum. She has also
brought many fresh and new approaches to
the study of foreign languages.

The class of 1992 would like to welcome all of
our new teachers to Hopedale High School.

Field Hockey

The 1991 field hockey team
continued its winning ways with
yet another undefeated, regular
season. Behind the play of all-
stars Andrea Reickert, Alison
Grady, and Crissy Derderian, the
field hockey team brought its
regular season winning streak to
62 games. Seniors Donna Draper
and Liane Speroni helped the
team advance as far as the
district finals, where it fell at the
hands of eventual state champion
Quabbin. However, this could not
diminish the season, which was
highlighted with a fifth consecutive
Dual Valley Conference title.

Soccer

The 1991 soccer team finished the season with a
9-6-2 record and a tournament birth. Led by
perennial all-star Jason Bucell and the hard-
nosed play of Joel Warren, the soccer team
posted its most successful season on record.
Coach Whitten finally got the season he had
been waiting for with the help of all-stars Tim
Mooradian, Josh Pimentel, Brian Tattrie and
seniors Chris Tattrie, Ceasar Priefert, Jason
Ferriter and David Diaz. Though the season
ended with a heart breaking loss to rival Nipmuc,
it was highlighted with a first-time victory over
Sutton and exciting play throughout the year.

Milanoski always had a smile on his face and quickly
became Hopedale's top runner. Senior Peter Drugan,
Sophomore Heath Wickline, and eighth grader Peter
Luckraft all came through for Hopedale in some big wins
and often set the pace for the top runners. The entire
team is grateful to Coasch D'Urso for pushing each
member to reach his potential all year long.

Girls Basketball

This year was a rebuilding year for the Girls Varsity
Basketball team. Led by lone senior, all-star Crissy
Derdarian, the team showed flashes of brilliance at times.
Along with Derdarian, Juniors Alison Grady, Shannon
Connor, Meagan Farrer, and AN Wood all played key roles
throughout the season. Sophomores Jen Paturzo and
Mandy Hourihan as well as Freshman, Jen Luckraft were
also invaluable. With four starters returning and an
undefeated Girls Junior Varsity squad, next year's season
looks promising.

Softball '91

The 1991 Hopedale High School Girls Softball Team had
another outstanding year with an undefeated league
record of 14-0-0 and a Dual Valley Championship. The
team was lead by seniors Julie Vignone, Michelle Crandall,
Tricia Hill, Tricia Reed, Tara Sparkes, and Laura Rojas.
Junior Andrea Reickert at second base and Sophomore
Alison Grady at first base both had outstanding seasons
to compliment the play of the veteran seniors. The girls
blasted their opponents by scoring over twenty runs in
four different games. The team could not have won their
league without their inspiring coach Mr. Whitten, who
never failed to reiterate his favorite motto "Dedication,
sacrifice, committment," to his girls.

Baseball '91

The 1991 Hopedale High School Baseball Team was filled
with many characters. Although the season's record was
disappointing, there were plenty of good times and laughs.
There was never a dull moment with the likes of Mike
McGrath Mike Lefrancois, Scott Lemon, and Jamie
Volpicelli. Let us not forget about our coach Joe Small,
who added his humor to the baseball field. Aside from the
humor, the players of the team learned a great deal about
baseball from Coach Small and played their hearts out for
him. As Coach always said, there is a time for laughs and
there is a time to get down to business. The business was
done on the field and in the gym throughout the spring
under the strict scrutiny of Coach Small. Hopefully the
hard work will pay off in the '92 season. A sincere thanks
to Coach Small for making Hopedale baseball a great
experience.

Boys Basketball

This years Boys Varsity Basketball team has had a tough act to
follow. Last year's team posted a 19-5 record as well as a Clark
Tournament and Central Mass. Championship. Though this year's
squad lost a few early season games, the Senior leadership of
Chris Tattrie, Tim Mooradian, Jason Bucell, Dan Antonellis, and
Kevin Milhomme, as well as the excellent play of sophomores
Brian Reickert and Brian Tattrie, pulled the team's final score tally
up to a respectable one, 14 wins-6 losses, and ended the season
with play in the Clark Tournament and the Districts. As the Clark
Tournament and the Disricts approach the team is poised to make
a surge at the championships that are ahead. Hopedale has once
again proved that it is a force to be reckoned with throughout the
state in Boys Basketball.

Golf '91

The 1991 Golf Team overcame a rough start to finish with
a 9-5 record and a third straight district berth. Behind the
play of all-star Tim Moooradian and Seniors Todd
Mikolaycik and Marc DiPietro the defending TVL
tournament champs finished in third place in the league
and were runners-up in the TVL tournament. After losing
four of the first five matches, the team bounced back by
winning eight of their last nine, including five in a row.
Things look good for the '92 team with most of the squad
returning. Along with Mooradian, veteran scorers Jamie
Abbruzzesse, Jason Potty, Jason McCallum, Greg Tatro,
and Peter Luckraft will all be back for another year on the
links.
